Frequently Asked Questions
Our microsuction method is widely regarded as the safest and most comfortable. It is a dry procedure with no water involved, and most patients report only a slight tickling sensation and the sound of the suction device. We do however occasionally use low-pressure irrigation if required.
For most people, this is not a regular requirement. However, if you are prone to wax buildup (e.g., if you use hearing aids or earplugs), we recommend a check-up every 6 to 12 months or if you notice symptoms returning.
Yes, preparation is key for a successful procedure. We advise using olive oil ear drops for 3-5 days prior to your appointment. This softens the wax, making it much easier and quicker to remove.
A typical appointment lasts around 30 minutes. This includes the initial consultation, the examination with the otoscope, and the microsuction procedure itself, followed by any aftercare advice.
Microsuction is suitable for the vast majority of people, including those with perforated eardrums or previous ear infections where irrigation (syringing) would be unsafe. Our pharmacist will confirm suitability during your consultation.
Microsuction is extremely safe. The risks are very low but can include minor dizziness or temporary reduced hearing immediately after the procedure. Our trained clinicians take every precaution to minimize any risks and more information will be provided by the clinician prior to the procedure.
Immediately following the procedure, you may feel unsteady, and it is advisable to avoid fast movements such as sitting up or standing up too abruptly - if you experience this, wait until you feel better before driving.
